ETF to Support French Fort Cove Development Commission

FREDERICTON (CNB) - The Environmental Trust Fund (ETF) is contributing $20,000 to the French Fort Cove Development Commission in Miramichi.

Acting Minister of the Environment and Local Government Dale Graham made the announcement today.
"The Environmental Trust Fund is a great tool that supports community-based initiatives to restore, protect and improve air, land and water resources, and to promote green ideas to make communities a better place," Graham said.

"As a recipient, the French Fort Cove Development Commission will enhance its planned Eco-Centre program by offering students and the general public guided nature tours of French Fort Cove."

Revenue for the ETF is derived from about half of the environmental fee paid on redeemable beverage containers.

This arrived in my inbox this morning.. and it's a good one. I wish we could all live by these rules. Original source unknown.

Happiness Bank

The 92-year old, petite, well-poised and proud lady, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with her hair fashionably coifed and make-up perfectly applied, even though she is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today.

Her husband of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, she smiled sweetly when told her room was ready.

As she maneuvered her walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description of her tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been hung on her window. "I love it," she stated with the enthusiasm of and eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy.

"Mrs. Jones, you haven't seen the room....just wait."

"That doesn't have anything to do with it," she replied. "Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged...it's how I arrange my mind.

I already decided to love it. It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do.

Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open I'll focus on the new day and all the happy memories I've stored away just for this time in my life.

Old age is like a bank account: you withdraw from what you've put in. So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories. Thank you for your part in filling my Memory bank. I am still depositing."

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:
1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free you mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.

World’s Leading Authorities Discuss Online and Offline Safety Issues at Miramichi Children’s Safety Fair

Saturday August 27/05, 11am to 1pm,
Downtown Miramichi, Queen Elizabeth Park (in the Square)

The Miramichi Police Force and the Child Safety Research and Innovation Center (CSRIC) are hosting this year’s Children’s Safety Fair that is part of the Downtown Miramichi Business Networks Back to School Sidewalk Sale & Children’s Safety Fair.

A special guest at this year’s Fair is cyberspace lawyer and child advocate Dr. Parry Aftab, founder of WiredSafety.org, the world’s largest and oldest Internet safety organization.

The safety issues covered at the Children’s Safety Fair will be:
Street Proofing
Protection from Online Predators
Cyberbullying

Featured at this year’s Fair will be a preview of CSRIC’s Sydney Safe-Seeker and the Incredible Journey Home interactive game designed to street-proof young children to help them avoid becoming victims of sexual exploitation and abduction.

The Sydney Safe-Seeker applications are the cornerstone of protecting children from predators when they are away from the supervision of their parents in real space. However, these applications only cover offline threats predators pose to children. There is also the growing threat to children of online predators. Dr. Parry Aftab, generally considered the leading expert in the world on Internet safety and responsible use, will speak about protecting children from Online Predators and Cyberbullies.

The discussion on Cyberbullying will be a great introduction to the upcoming Cyberbullying Summit featuring Dr. Aftab being held at James M. Hill High School on Oct. 3rd, which has been coordinated by CSRIC, School District 16 and the Miramichi Police Force.

Go to http://www.childsafetygateway.org/ for more information about this Summit.

The Miramichi region is the place to be this week! There's so much going on, you might have a difficult time deciding which event to take in. The 48th Annual Miramichi Folksong Festival kicked off on Monday and runs until Friday . . . but wait! Just when you thought it was over, they've added a Post-Festival Summer concert on Sunday night that you won't want to miss featuring Terry Kelly, Patricia Conroy, Jamie Warren and the Miramichi's very own, Jason Barry. Click here for the complete schedule of events.

Meanwhile a little further along the river, in Tabusintac, it's Old Home Week. They've been having a great time since Saturday with everything from an Art Exhibit, Antique Car Show and Ski-Doo Races to a corboil, parades and fireworks. But there's still plenty of excitement to come, Old Home Week doesn't wrap up until Saturday night's Farewell Dance featuring Jake Break. Get the full schedule by visiting their website.
