Here's a photo for the moose hunters who may not have spotted a moose this past weekend.

This picture of a moose was sent to us by Gloria Gallant. It was taken on Sept. 4, 2005 in her son's (Jody) yard in Douglastown. It is a young bull about 1 1/2 years old.

Look at that pretty face!

Darlene's Tea House and Family Restaurant

There's nothing like the smell of toasted homemade brown bread (with raisins) to put you in a good mood.

I dropped into one of my most favourite places this morning, Darlene's Tea House & Family Restaurant. After much demand from customers and friends, Darlene has opened her restaurant once again. www.DarlenesTeaHouse.com

This morning she was baking lasagna and mixing up garlic butter for garlic bread. I didn't want to leave.

I think it is the desserts I've missed the most...the cinnamon buns with cream cheese sauce, gingerbread cake with rum-raisin sauce... and the list goes on.

She has only been re-opened since Sept. 17 but already the response has been overwhelming. Old customers are calling to see the news of her opening is really true, her reservation book has come to life again and groups are already booking their Christmas parties. Since I live close to the TeaHouse in Blackville, and work in Miramichi, I've even had requests from people in Miramichi asking me to deliver breakfast to them

Hmm...maybe I could start taking orders... rent a little van...

Eel Ground in Bloom Winners Announced

The winners of the 2005 Eel Ground contest were announced by Percy Barnaby, President of Abenaki Associates, the Eel Ground - based company which sponsored the first annual contest in memory of Madeline Bernard, Mr. Barnaby’s Grandmother.

The winners are: Best Overall Garden, Darlene Francis of 102 Francis Road; Best Back Yard Garden, Grace McKay of 9 Church Road and Best Children’s Garden, Wenda Murphy of 72 Riverview Road East. Honorable mentions went to Cindy Ginnish, whose garden is a wonderful “work in progress” which honors the memory of various family members, and Angie McKay.

This was the first year for the contest which will become an annual event. “Judging was made very difficult since all entries were strong candidates, and we want to thank all Eel Ground residents who joined in on this excellent opportunity to make our community a better place to live”, said Mr. Barnaby. “Next year we hope to attract more sponsors, and to get a real early start to the contest so more people can plan their entries early in the season. What was really interesting this year was that some of the contestants also submitted stories along with their entries to explain what their gardens meant to them.”

Mr. Barnaby hopes to have a higher level of participation from the younger community members next year and will have more prizes dedicated to them. He also expressed his thanks for Michelle Cadogan and Victoria Irving for their kind assistance in judging the entries, and to Shirley Ward for her assistance in promoting the contest.

Photographs of the winning entries are posted here.

In the blink of an eye, cars on highways collide in symphonies of twisting metal, as drivers disappear behind the wheel. Planes tear through the sky, millions vanish, and humanity cries out in fear.

The Left Behind dramatic audio series comes to Life – on the Life radio Network beginning this Sunday September 18th at 1 pm.

More than a dramatic reading of the Left Behind novel, this ground-breaking audio drama is an evolutionary leap in storytelling. Featuring an electrifying cast of voice actors, stunning sound effects, and a riveting soundtrack, this unprecedented Sound and Drama Experience immerses the listener into the lives of Rayford Steele and Buck Williams as they encounter chaos, adventure, and faith among those who have been left behind.

The series is based on the award winning novels by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins.

Jenkins and LaHaye offer an account of what life might be like for those left behind when millions vanish. Left Behind will intrigue you, entertain you, and challenge you. And when you realize it represents an event that millions believe will actually occur, it could change your life.

Passengers aboard a Boeing 747 en route to Europe disappear. Instantly. Nothing remains except their rumpled piles of clothes, jewelry, fillings, surgical pins, and the like.

Vehicles, suddenly unmanned, careen out of control. People are terror-stricken as loved ones vanish before their eyes.

Some blame space aliens. Others claim a freak of nature. Still others say it was a high-tech military attack by a world conqueror.

But airline captain Rayford Steele's wife had warned him of this very event. If Irene Steele was right, both she and their young son have disappeared. What about their older daughter? Like Rayford, Chloe had been skeptical.

In the midst of global chaos, Rayford must search for his family, for answers, for truth. As devastating as the disappearances have been, the darkest days may lie ahead.

Terror and chaos continues worldwide as the cataclysm unfolds. For those left behind, the apocalypse has just begun.

Mix the Left Behind series with a full-blown soundtrack production and a bit of your imagination, and you have an exciting new way to experience the trials and triumphs of the Tribulation Force. Each book is transformed into twelve, 30-minute episodes by dozens of professional actors. Sound effects are added throughout, and a custom music sound track is composed and performed. The end result is a front row seat to a captivating portrayal of end time’s events.

Left Behind – the dramatic audio series coming to the Life Radio Network 107.5 FM in Blackville, NB, and 101.1 FM in the Miramichi, NB. And don’t forget you can also check us out online at www.liferadio.ca and hit the listen live link.

"Working together anything is possible"
A boat docked in a tiny Mexican village. An American tourist complimented the Mexican fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took him to catch them.

"Not very long," answered the Mexican.

"But then, why didn't you stay out longer and catch more?" asked the American.

The Mexican explained that his small catch was sufficient to meet his needs and those of his family.

The American asked, "But what do you do with the rest of your time?"

"I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, and take a siesta with my wife. In the evenings, I go into the village to see my friends, have a few drinks, play the guitar, and sing a few songs . . I have a full life."

The American interrupted, "I have an MBA from Harvard and I can help you!
You should start by fishing longer every day. You can then sell the extrafish you catch. With the extra revenue, you can buy a bigger boat."

And after that?" asked the Mexican.

With the extra money the larger boat will bring, you can buy a secondone and a third one and so on until you have an entire fleet of trawlers.Instead of selling your fish to a middle man, you can then negotiatedirectly with the processing plants and maybe even open your own plant. You can then leave this little village and move to Mexico City, LosAngeles, or even New York City! From there you can direct your huge newenterprise."

"How long would that take?" asked the Mexican.

"Twenty, perhaps twenty-five years," replied the American.

"And after that?"

"Afterwards? Well my Friend, That's when it gets really interesting," answered the American, laughing. "When your business gets really big, you an start selling stocks and make millions!"

"Millions? Really? And after that?" said the Mexican.

"After that you'll be able to retire, live in a tiny village near the coast, sleep late, play with your children, catch a few fish, take a siesta with your wife and spend your evenings drinking and enjoying your friends."

And the moral is: Know where you're going in life... you may already be there.
