The New Brunswick Community College-Miramichi campus is celebrating twenty-five plus years in the region. The year 2006 marked the twenty-fifth anniversary of its establishment as a campus. Marie-Paule Theriault, principal, extends a warm and enthusiastic welcome. "We have so many friends in our community and this will be our chance to bring many of them together and have some fun." The celebrations are kicking off with an Old-Fashioned Fair and Career Day at Waterford Green on September 27 from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. featuring the following events:

• Games + Activities for the whole family (organized by college staff and
students) – All proceeds will go to local charities.

• College information (will be available for prospective students)

• NBCC Miramichi Campus Trivia Contest (September 14-22)
• First Prize – One half the tuition waived for a 2007-08 NBCC Miramichi program
• Second Prize – Free tuition for any NBCC Miramichi Night School course delivered in the 2007-08 academic year.
*Watch for the contest ballot in the Miramichi Leader in September and see the college bookstore for further details.

These events are being held in conjunction with Historic Chatham Business District’s Pumpkin Festival and APEGNB’s famous Pumpkin Fling.

A history of the New Brunswick Community College – Miramichi campus will be released. This intriguing book traces the roots of NBCC and the campaign to locate a campus in Miramichi. It explores the explosion of the Learning Technologies and follows the development of the campus up to today’s modern facility and its programming. "You will find this is a wonderful treat to read," says Theriault. "It has many, many stories about the people who have worked, studied, and taught here; that’s what makes it so enjoyable."

A colorful and imaginative DVD is also due for release during the celebrations. It will provide information about the NBCC – Miramichi campus and will feature interviews with staff and students.

NBCC-Miramichi Campus will hold a Main 3-Day Event from Oct. 25th-27th, 2007.
More details to follow at a later date.

First Annual Jaclyn Rogerson Memorial Car Rally

For those of you who didn’t know her, Jaclyn Rogerson was one of the most fun loving, spirited people I have ever known. She was a pharmacist at Jean Coutu in Chatham. She only came to the Miramichi a few years ago but in that time she was able to touch the lives of everyone she met. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in May of 2006 but she didn’t let the disease keep her down. In the last year she made it her mission to find a cure for breast cancer, she rallied her friends and family and in only a few months we managed to raise over $14,000 and donated it to the CIBC Run for the Cure. This money is making a difference in Miramichi with the recent $100,000 donation to the digital mammogram campaign from the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Jaclyn lost her courageous battle in May of 2007, less than a year after being diagnosed. We are raising money for the Run for the Cure. Last year Jaclyn came up with the idea of a car rally to raise money, this year we will carry on her legacy. We will be having a fundraiser car rally on September 15th at 2 p.m.. We can make a difference.

Where? The event starts and finishes at Jean Coutu in Chatham
How? Register a team (max of 4 per car) for $40
Please contact me at tracyt@nb.sympatico.ca or 622-0459 if you have any questions. I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you in advance,
Tracy Ahern

International Yuk Yuk's Stand Up Comedy will present Andrew Bush, Catherine Robertson and Mark Little at Dooly's Bar & Billiard, 131 Duke St., Miramichi East on Wed., Sept. 5th, 9 p.m..

Andrew Bush has been working in television for over 10 years. In 2006, he began directing/editing comedy shorts and within a few months they garnered over a million hits on the Internet. Andrew's television credits include Made in Canada, Regenesis, Video On Trial and Street Cents, for which he was nominated for a Gemini. His writing credits include Robson Arms, Odd Job Jack and Canadian Idol. Andrew was also once in a pilot for MTV featuring an alien. Andrew was also once in a pilot for MTV featuring an alien. Andew enjoys standing up and telling jokes.

Halifax comedian Catherine Robertson has been performing stand-up comedy for less than a year, but is already grabbing people's attention. Selected for this year's PEI Comedy Festival, her 'I didn't expect to hear THAT' brand of comedy has been making people laugh all over the east coast. Born and raised in Moncton, NB, Catherine now calls Halifax home and loves sharing her quirky and unique take on life.

Vancouver-born comedian Mark Little is part of the new crop of comics currently based in Halifax. Although he has only been doing stand-up a short while, his brand of original, ridiculous, alternative comedy recently earned him a spot on the Best of show for CBC's "So You Think You're Funny?" He is also the director of the longest running sketch show in Halifax (The Sunday-Night Comedy Spectacular), and one half of the improv duo Picnicface, which was recently nominated for The Coast's Best Halifax Comedian award. Watch out for Mark Little, they say. LIke everyone's saying it. For real.

Tickets $10.
