Hedley Donald Doak, husband of the late Marion (Black) Doak of Miramichi, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Thursday at the age of 79.
Born in Newcastle, NB, he was the son of the late Hedley John Doak and Irene (O’Brien) Ryan (James). He was retired from REPAP as a Electrician, a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church and a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 10.
Hedley enjoyed playing darts and the comradery that came with it. He made several close friends through all the activities he participated in such as darts, bowling, curling, broomball and softball. He really enjoyed competitive games of pass-the-ace with his brothers and sisters.
Family, friends and neighbours were important to Hedley. After retirement, he kept in touch with many of the friends he made from years of working in the kraft mill.
Hedley was a good father and provided a good example for his sons. His face would light up with pride whenever a grandchild or great-grandchild would enter the room.
Hedley was a loving husband who's heart was broken in 2013 when the love of his life Marion passed away. He often talked about how much he missed her.
He is survived by is sons Hedley Doak (Connie) of Miramichi and Paul Doak (Melanie) of Miramichi; his sisters, Linda McLean (Bobby) of Miramichi, Barbara LeGresley (Peewee) of Miramichi, Betty Martin (Allard) of Miramichi and Lois Kitchen (Keith) of Pictou Nova Scotia; his brothers, Brian (Jeanette) of Miramichi and Wayne Ryan of Miramichi; his brother-in-law Fred Black (Jean) of Miramichi and Francis Comeau of Acton Ontario; his sister-in-law Bernadette Black of Miramchi; his grandchildren, Corey, Haley, Nolan, Benson, Shamara, Trenton, Spencer, Michael John and Lily and his great grandchildren, Tristan, Fiona and Ivy.
He was predeceased by his wife Marion, father Hedley, mother Irene, stepfather James, sister Irene Comeau, brother-in-law Daryl Black, father-in-law Manley Black and mother-in-law Beth Black.
At the request of the family there will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, with Father Godwin Kalu officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In his memory, donations to Hospice Miramichi, Miramichi Regional Hospital Palliative Care or Make a Wish Canada would be appreciated by the family.
