Miramichi's Funeral Announcements Monica Margaret Vickers

With sad hearts, the family of Monica Margaret Vickers (Kingston) of Miramichi announces she has passed away peacefully at Miramichi hospital on Friday, April 23rd. Born in Newcastle, Miramichi, NB in 1927, Monica grew up in a close family with 11 siblings. She was married for over 50 years to the love of her life William.

Aside from raising a busy family of five children, Monica worked for many years at Miramichi Hospital as a nurse and nursing supervisor. She was a past president of the CWL and over the years had been very active in her church at St. Mary’s. She also assisted with the creation of the Miramichi Foodbank and was active in the formation of the Retired Nurses Association. Mother was very attached to the Northwest Miramichi, home to family heritage and sitting by the river was a favourite pastime when she had the opportunity. One of her greatest joys was to hear the singing of a robin. The arrival of the first early morning songs of Robins in spring was always a very special time for her.

Monica is pre-deceased by her husband William, her mother (Lillian), father (Samuel), sisters Anne Marie Weissler (Joseph), Rita Byberg (Peter), Carmel Leslie (Don); brothers, Billy (Loreen), George (Stephanie), Aloysius (Eleanor), Frank (Margie), Joe (Eleanor) and Paul.

Left to celebrate her life are sisters Bernadette Sullivan (Pat), Patty Kelly (Brendan); daughter Mary Rawlinson (Edward), sons Kevin (Ann), John, William - Yellowknife NT and Kingston (Monnie) - Indian Rocks Beach, FL. Sisters-in law, Mary Vickers -Blacks Harbour, Helen Vickers-Saint John, Alberta Abud-Grand-Barachois, Stephanie Kingston -Saint John, Eleanor Kingston – Chaplin Island Road and Eleanor Kingston – Port Perry Ontario, Grandchildren Andrew (Vanessa), Erin LeRoux (Ryan) Laura Martin (Mitch), Amy Rawlinson (David MacKenzie), Kingston and Samuel. Great grandchildren Reese, Luke, Lochlan, Oliver and Alexander.

Mom had many dear friends across the Miramichi and her passions included playing Bridge, reading, knitting and she also loved her Netflix movies. Through to the end of her life she was quite active and was always up for a spin on the river.

In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to the Miramichi Food Bank. Due to Covid-19 limitations, there will be no wake and the funeral service will be private. A public celebration of Monica’s life will be held at a later time at a location to be announced with all family present.

Arrangements are in the care of Davidson’s Funeral Home, 622-7464 and online at www.davidsonsfh.com, your family-owned, family-operated Funeral Home.
