Alice McCarthy passed away Oct. 2, 2022, at Losier Hall, Miramichi surrounded by her family at the age of 89. Born in Nowlanville, Alice was the daughter of the late Joseph and Annie (Murphy) McCarthy.
After many years associated with The Sisters of Charity of Saint John, Alice retired to Bath, NB and later to the Jack Estey Manor in Loggieville, Miramichi. In her retirement, Alice pursued her passion for genealogy, bird watching, painting, and doing cross stitch, as well as enjoying many evenings playing card games with her friends at the Manor in Loggieville. During her career as a teacher, Alice taught in Saint John, St. Stephen, Winnipeg and Bath, NB. Of the many places where Alice lived and taught, her heart never left the areas of Johnville and Bath where she had many lifelong friends. As she said when she left Johnville, “it was my home away from home for twenty- five years. I. always felt welcomed and even traded fishhooks for worms.” She enjoyed the outdoors and fishing. Alice fulfilled her dream of visiting Ireland in 2011.
